Is society robbing children of their innocence?

Anyone should be surprised when told that a 9-year-old girl is starting a lingerie line with a company called Ooh! La, La! Couture. Although a source close to the 9-year-old has recently denied the rumor according to GossipCop.com, it should still be a concern when young girls are acting older than their age.

This same 9-year-old in the past, has been photographed dressed as a dominatrix and a “sexy” ladybug for Halloween and has also been seen in pictures dancing around a stripper’s pole. The girl is Noah Cyrus, the sister to the teen pop-star Miley Cyrus.

For what reason would a 9-year-old girl think to create a lingerie line leaves me curious. It also forces me to think back to me being that age and not even knowing what lingerie was! So I question, do children really grow up anymore?

As I enter my twenties, the way children are being raised has changed even since I was a toddler. When I was growing up, I was thinking about playing outside, playing with my Barbie dolls and watching Nickelodeon. Now it seems like the youth do not care for these activities anymore, instead they play violent video games, dance to provocative music and wear tons of make-up.

Some people blame society for these behaviors while others argue it is the parents not doing their job. Either way, children are not enjoying being young; they’re too busy trying to be adults.

Growing up, I would ask my mother if I could do something that was before my time and she would say, “No, if you do everything now, then you won’t have anything to look forward to when you get older.” Back then I did not want to admit she was right, but now I can appreciate her telling me that because it was true.

I can gladly say that many of the things I have experienced have happened in a timely manner and I appreciated each moment. Youth growing up now will not be able to say that when little girls are getting acrylic nails, wearing make-up and putting weave tracks in all before the age of 13! Girls who are experiencing this at such a tender age will grow up believing this behavior is normal and will never grow to appreciate anything.

The children of this generation need to realize and accept that there is a reason why we do not just enter the world as adults. We are supposed to enjoy growing up, being immature and naive, and experience being a child. The children that choose to skip that stage of childhood will one day wish they could go back to not having a care in the world and being a true child.

It is a blessing to live a real childhood. We have seen many examples of what can happen to those who were not fortunate enough to experience one through celebrity such as Michael Jackson, Gary Coleman, and Britney Spears.

It is sad to know that something such as growing up can be taken away from children. But with the youth in this generation, it seems as though they are willingly throwing away their childhoods to experience adult things.

I am happy to say I experienced a good innocent childhood and will use that same line my mother used on me to my children in the future. We can only learn from our mistakes, but we cannot learn from things we have not experienced. To all the youth similar to Noah Cyrus in the world, know that being a kid is a precious thing and should be enjoyed.

I'm not commenting about the role of parents in these kids lives. All I'm saying is that it is terrible to bash a small company that has been making adorable tutu dresses for years by spreading a lie that they were ever going to make lingerie. You can look at their website and see for yourselves. This writer says it isn't true and then says "For what reason would a 9-year-old girl think to create a lingerie line leaves me curious..." But neither Noah Cyrus NOR ooh la la were ever going to create a line of lingerie in the first place! Was her Halloween costume inappropriate? yes. Should someone have thought twice before they held a Teen Choice Awards party in a lounge that had stripper poles? yes. I'm not sugar coating anything, but this lingerie story was NEVER true.

Shame on all, we need to protect or children I work so hard as a mother just building up the fact that my children are normal they do sports, dance, play outside, NO television in the bedroom, NO internet, No cell phone, No playing befor the home work is done....I think we need to take back the control the WORLD has upon or chidrens lives and step to the plate and be that parent we were created to be......Lets STOP passing the bucket and just be PARENTS ! Bye the way nice artical some people CANT handle the truth all they know is to lay the blame on others~

I appreciate you trying to clear up a lie, because it seems like very few people check facts these days. Facts are though; Noah Cyrus was NEVER in talks to do a lingerie line. Facts are: her friend Emily Grace INSPIRED a line of TUTU dresses and many in the media pulled up photos of Halloween costumes and bathing suit shots to make up an untrue story.

The focus of my article was to raise the issue of how young ladies are being raised, and I only used Noah Cyrus as an example. Me personally if I had a daughter, I would not want her pandering around as a dominatrix for halloween, and it is no question that girls of this age are trying to grow up too fast. I was not bashing her character simply because her last name is Cyrus, and the article was not about the Ooh la la couture clothing company, it was about the fact that a nine year old girl was in talks with starting a young girl lingerie line but did not follow through with it. And I refuse to think that I am spreading lies when I clearly stated that the rumor that was being spread by other journalists was false, so I am helping clearify that it was a false rumor.

An the example of Perez Hilton in my opinion is a bad example, because he will demean and through slander on anyone's name in a heartbeat, and just for personal reasons me I am a journalist not a gossip blogger, and I have nothing against the Cryus family, I do not know them. Thank you for your comments and criticism, I appreciate it them.

You admit yourself that Ooh la la couture is not making lingerie, then you go on to talk about a company making lingerie for 9 year olds! This is NOT HAPPENING, it NEVER WAS HAPPENING and it is slanderous that you keep repeating a lie that even Perez Hilton admitted was fabricated. Check out their website yourselve (or is doing actual research to difficult for you?) Ooh la la couture makes adorable tutu dresses that are very age appropriate and many little girls and their parents love. My daughter has been wearing their sweet little dresses for years and I think it is terrible that "journalists" like yourself continue to spread lies just so you can bash a little 9 year old girl just because her last name is Cyrus.
