Teyana Taylor increased gym membership after her latest feature in the premiere of Kanye West’s “Fade” music video.
The video released Sunday at the VMA’s at the end of Kanye West’s speech or rant, as some may call it. The song comes off his most recent album “The Life of Pablo.” Taylor spends most of the video dripping in baby oil, wearing a sports bra and thong dancing uniquely around the gym.
The singer and actress first got her debut in the spotlight at the age of 16 when she starred on MTV’s hit show “My Super Sweet 16.” She then signed to Kanye West’s “GOOD Music” label as well as Def Jam.
Taylor, born and raised in Harlem, New York, has always been praised for her fit body. Just months after Taylor gave birth with her fiancé Iman Shumpert of the NBA Cavalier’s, she was able to grace the stage yet again, this time better than ever.
The song “Fade” featuring Ty Dolla $ign is about Kanye West claiming that he feels himself becoming distant, or fading from a loved one. Taylor told Complex magazine that West reached out to her after her Lil Kim tribute at Vh1’s Hip Hop Honors. Choreographer Jae Blaze told Pitchfork that the inspiration for the video was a type of Jamaican dance called “bruk back.”
“She was just phenomenal to work with, and she knows her stuff. She used so many different elements in her choreography to bring back from the old school to the new school,” Blaze told pitchfork.
Blaze also admits to working with legendary Fonzworth Bentley to create moves for Taylor.
Social media went crazy during and after the premiere. With her body moving to each beat, it’s hard not to follow her and wonder exactly how she’s managed to be so fit. After several fans were tweeting her asking for tips in the gym, Taylor finally tweeted that she has something on the works and will release details soon.
“You’re going to gag right now because I would really be lying to you if I told you that I worked out,” Taylor told Vogue Magazine.
“I keep it really real, I don’t like to lie and say I work out, three, four times a week. All I do is dance. All I do is dance.”
Many viewers were stunned by the final scene of the video which featured Taylor as a lioness alongside her fiancé and newborn. Blaze credits this moment to Taylor’s fierceness.
“She has worked her way into that, and she’s in a great position right now in her life. She has her family. She’s being held down by her amazing husband. She has a beautiful daughter,” Blaze said. “You know, the lioness always protects her baby. I think it really is about her coming into her fierceness.”
West allowing Taylor to star in his video shows how much appreciation he has for her. This video has taken Taylor’s career and following to new heights within minutes.
