Author Niki Kendall will be at booksigning Friday on campus

Niki Kendall who is a teacher, motivational speaker, writer, and mom will be at the North Carolina A&T State University bookstore on Friday for the signing of her book “Makin Happy,” which was released in April.

n this book audiences follow the life of the main character, Asia Blake, who is an upbeat, motivated, and courageous woman. Asia Blake goes through many obstacles that many people can relate to such as love, friendships, relationships and many other experiences that mold people into the individuals who they eventually become over time.

“The book came from a lot experiences that I have personally gone through,” says Kendall.

“I was happy to have the opportunity to write about people of color in a good light.” Being a successful African American woman herself, receiving a Master’s degree from the Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts, lecturing at a University level, having extensive experience in the wine business, and currently teaching in the public school system, Kendall wanted to show many a side of the black community that many people are ignorant to.

There are still a lot of people in America that don’t see African Americans as being successful or being able to contribute to society.

Because of this one of her reasons for writing this book was to erase the stereotype that is portrayed in a lot of the media.

The question that Kendall hopes this novel brings forward is “Who is responsible for our happiness?”

“I want readers to realize that we are in control of our own happiness,” Kendall says.

The emotional experiences that are brought up in the book will have the readers mesmerized, and wanting to read more.

Kendall believes that “Makin Happy” will uplift all those who read it.
